CBD For Dogs and The legalization of cannabis opens a surprising door for dog owners. Lets look at uses and benefits of CBD for dogs. Is CBD oil for dogs safe?
CBD For Dogs
CBD for dogs is a cannabis extract that can help reduce anxiety and pain in dogs, without the dog being frozen / high. It is a natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs that are often addictive and have undesirable side effects (eg prozac for dogs). CBD is consumed orally, by pouring a few drops into the dog’s mouth. Without psychoactive effects, giving your dog CBD could be an interesting solution that will only do them good!
If you’re like us, you’ve never heard the word “CBD” before until quite recently. In this article, you will be told everything you need to know to give your dog CBD.
What Is the effect of CBD For Dogs?
After ingesting a dose of CBD, your dog feels better.
CBD does not add any sensation but rather, reduces anxiety and pain. A bit like taking an Advil, it does not make you feel better but rather masks your pain. Giving your dog CBD reduces his perception of pain and reduces his anxiety level without making him high. CBD does not cause stupidity, does not hallucination, does not blur ideas. When it does work (because it does not work on all dogs) it distresses, relaxes, reduces anxiety and pain.
Humans can also consume CBD for the same reasons as dogs. The effects of CBD on dogs and humans are essentially the same. These reasons can be divided into 2 major groups:
A) Reduce pain (arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, etc.)
B) Reduce anxiety
Breakdown :
In order to be consumed the CBD is extracted from the plant and then added to the oil. This is called a “tincture”. It is in this liquid form that CBD is generally sold. The extract is then sold in a small 10ml bottle in which the concentratesion of CBD per milliliter varies.
Dosage :
On the cannamedics website, the 10 ml bottle it’s $ 47.00, but its concentratesion is very strong. One drop is equal to over 3 grams of CBD oil or 200 mg per drop. For my dog, I use One drop in a cup per day for a 4 pound dog. The small bottle of 10ml consists many doses. Cost efficient for sure.
Cost :
In addition, following legalization, prices have drastically dropped! Low cost is not always better. As well, always check the concentratesion of the CBD oil before buying. A bottle with minimal concentratesion is not worth the low price, it will not be strong enough to be effective. A bottle for $47.00 at a concentratesion of 200mg is perfectly reasonable. Actually above expected.
Warning :
Hemp also contains CBD but in a considerably smaller quantity. Thus, there are products for dogs that display contain CBD, at a lower price, for example Amazon, but these products will have no real effect on your dog because their CBD concentratesion is drastically lower.

Why we give it to our dog
It has long been accepted that our responsive dog would always be timid. That the noise in the street, even the neighbours coming home, scared him. It was just not his thing.
By reading on dog forums, we often saw the term CBD oil used repeatedly, without us understanding what CBD oil was. People said they thought it made a real difference in their dog’s behaviour.
Someone mentioned that their dog would always be on the run and they didn’t know what to do. The answer came up frequently to try CBD oil for his anxiety.
Test! We have taken CBD Oil
We are not comfortable giving something to our dog without having tested it ourselves. We took CBD oil at the same time as we gave it to our dog. We suffer from anxiety, and are the most light-weight people we know! We feel comfortable in telling you that there is no hallucinogenic effect and that we do not get a “high” from the experience. It is rather a tool to manage anxiety.
Personally, I find that it assists with the negative thoughts that form in your head. Thoughts become more controlled, rather than a snowball avalanche. If you suffer from anxiety, you will understand what I mean.
CBD for humans VS CBD for Dogs
Several companies sell CBD oil. Some sell the CBD oil for humans and also sell a different product for dogs. Essentially, the CBD oil is the same. The only difference is the kind of oil in which the CBD molecules are put.
Some companies use fish oil as a vessel and call it CBD oil for dogs. CBD oil for humans would often be suspended in vegetable oil. Basically, there is no difference in the CBD oil for humans vs dogs. Don’t let them fool you! It’s the same thing!
CBD does not work on all dogs
One thing that reassured us is that it does not affect everyone. We can not know exactly what percentage of dogs take CBD “works” but we have read that CBD is effective on 50% of dogs. The effects are seen between 5 and 30 minutes after consumption and last about 4 hours. There are dogs for whom it has no effect and for others it is practically a miracle.

It is advisable to start with a small dose and gradually increase until you see the effects. If you arrive at the maximum dose and notice no difference after a few weeks, you can try another CBD provider or conclude that it does not work for your dog.
CBD VS THC
People usually use cannabis to get high. THC is the molecule that creates this effect. CBD oil, although it is also extracted from cannabis, is not at all the same as THC. It does not make high. The oil can be consumed by dogs as well as humans. Only difference is in the dosage. CBD oil is safe for dogs but THC is not. Compared to humans, dogs have a proportionately increased susceptibility to THC and may be seriously ill after consuming it.
Warning
Hemp also contains CBD, but in a considerably smaller quantity. There are products for dogs that say they contain CBD, but these products will have no real effect on your dog because their CBD concentratesion is drastically lower. These may be offered at a lower price, for example via Amazon but not worth it to the consumer, based on quality and concentratesion. Nano CBD is cost effective AND exceeds the quality offered on competing sites.
